Rescueboat – Sheet Anchor for critical and independent Mediaprojects

Rescueboat defines itself as independent docking- and networking plattform for young media representatives. Founded 2009 in Vienna/ Austria, the organisation came into being through the cooperation between Christine Moderbacher and Annika Lems on the documentary „Harraga“.

Idea. While working on the film, they were confronted with everyday concerns of low-budget film productions over and over again: lack in money, in expert knowledge or in professional equipment. Only through the help, interest and knowhow of others, big and small disasters could be averted. A lot of ambitious projects from young and independent artists and media representatives dash against very simple problems that could easily be solved through cooperation with others. At the same time print- and visual media tend to be fast-moving and don’t leave enough space for experiments. Due to this the idea of making a virtue out of the obvious was created: After the film was released, Annika and Christine decided to found Rescueboat to interlink with others and exchange knowledge for future projects.

Selfempowerment instead of moaning! Rescueboat doesn’t wait for others to open up space for funding or institutional settings but drops the sheet anchor itself! The organisation works on a self-governed level on the point of intersection between arts and media. It defines itself as an open plattform and invites people with different backgrounds to participate. The projects that emerge through Rescueboat should be independently, critically and driven by the courage to experiment.
