"as soon as you are in the open seas, the only thing you can see is water and sky everywhere. because of the waves the boat is shaking and you completely loose your orientation and don’t understand here you are going anymore," states 30 year old khaled, a tunisian farmer. saying that, he attempts to explain his tries to escape over the see to italy, leaving tunisia behind. together with his friend ghabsi, with whom he grew up in small fisher village in the northern part of tunisia, he tried this dangerous crossing to italy five times, using just a little zodiac. almost every time they got deported as soon as arriving there. they are harragas, a word that marks a lost generation in northafrica, as they claim themselves. rather they accept dying in the sea than deedless waiting in forced stagnation…
